Lashihai Lake

Lashihai Lake is in the basin in Hengduan Mountain Range, 10 kilometers away from the Lijiang Old Town. The grassy marshland on the embankment often gathers lots of water that forms the best place for plants, fishes, shellfish and river snails. The grassy marshland provides a nice habitat for wetland animals and plants.In early winter, lots of wild birds come here from cold northern places. They rest in the grass and look for food in streams. The warm climate makes it possible for them to pass the long winter safely. When next spring comes and flowers bloom, the birds will leave to the north for reproductions. They bring life to the villages at the foot of Jade Dragon Mountain. By chance you can even discover some rare black-necked cranes fly over Jade Dragon Mountain in rosy clouds of dawn.

From Lijiang, do not hesitate to rent bicycles and a taxi will drop you at the lake. You can go for a day around the lake quietly. You will pass through quiet villages and near a beautiful Buddhist temple, Zhiyun Temple. Mule or horseback riding is now also very popular around the lake, especially during the Chinese national holidays.
